World Cup 16th June.

Italy 1 – 1 Paraguay. I almost nodded off watching this game. That doesn’t say much about either team.

New Zealand 1 – 1 Slovakia. Similar to the above statement referencing sleep. The only moment of note, NZ’s equaliser, I missed as I’d nipped to the bathroom for a leak, doh!

Ivory Coast 0-0 Portugal. This was two teams on a pitch masquerading under the guise of a football match. It was mind numbingly dull. As for that clown Ronaldo, it beggars belief how he gets away with it. “If you so much as look at me I’ll fall over.” He had the brassed necked cheek to complain about rough tackling in a post match interview. Twat.

Now to the samba beat that is Brazil.

I, like millions of others, expected Brazil to bury a pub team from North Korea. How wrong we were. Performance of the tournament so far from the Koreans. Knowing what they were up against it was a superb display of very well disciplined defending and closing down the midfield. It’s the first time that I’ve ever viewed a 2 – 1 defeat as a victory ad was the only game so far the had me agitated on the sofa.

Brazil were good though, as you’d expect, but something irked me no end. Robinho and Elano never played like that when playing in a City shirt, other than the occasional glimpse.

Honduras 0 – 1 Chile. First game of today and I followed it on radio. Seemed entertaining and I was left thinking Chile should have scored about 8.

Spain are playing Switzerland at the moment. I’m following it on the radio and it seems a little dull.

So far, apart from a couple of games, it’s been a boring World Cup and I still hate them bloody trumpets. First one to turn up at City game next season, with a vuvuzela, and is sat next to me will be receiving a fat lip!

:biff:

ITV’s coverage is still dismal. BBC games on Freeview are fine picture quality wise so why aren’t the games ITV show? Why does Adrian Chiles suddenly seem a shadow of the former presenter he was when working for the BBC?

World Cup 14th June.

We’ve seen a few of the big guns now as the tournament unfolds during it’s league based games but we have yet to see Italy, Brazil, Portugal and Spain.

From what I have seen so far of the “big teams” the only one to impress was Germany mainly due to their overall game,
despite the fact that Australia seemed hell bent on making Germany look good.

Argentina look the part going forward but the defence leaves a lot to be desired.

Holland. I only took in their opening game via Radio 5 so it’s a tad difficult to judge. I got the impression the score flattered them a little.

Italy, the World Champions, enter the arena tonight against Paraguay. Thankfully this is on the BBC. Streaming works and the Freeview quality is fine. ITV has been dire.

Talking of radio. This is now my choice for commentary with the sound turned off on the telly, unless 5 Live is on the red button. The constant drone of the irritating trumpet things is destroying this tournament for me and the effect is somewhat lessened on the radio commentary.

When SA are playing then fine, blow away to your hearts content. When other teams are playing one another let the two sets of supporters provide the atmosphere.

Brazil play tomorrow. All hail the samba beat which is far more preferable to that constantly irritating monotone B♭. [B flat]

World Cup, possible vuvuzela ban.

Please do.

South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban after complaints. [Source: BBC]

I said last year during the Confederations Cup, also held in South Africa, that these infernal things would be an issue.

:ban:

World Cup 12th June.

England 1 – 1 USA

Fellow supporters of M.C.F.C will understand me when I say “that performance was typical city.” The expectation was greater than the result delivered. :-| Having said that we had our chances to win this game but so did they, so that’s a double :-| :-|

Why wasn’t the most senior fit keeper first choice? In a tournament as big as this surely that should be you first consideration when choosing you keeper. It has to be James (if fit) or Hart from now on after that schoolboy error.

Why was Milner picked if, as reported, he’d been unwell prior to the game. he should have been replaced by Cole. SWP is no bloody use on the left.

Those bloody headache inducing trumpets. At times it’s hard to hear the commentators due to the noise. :biff: Get rid of them.

Rooney up front on his own from now on please. Gerard and Lampard can provide support and Crouch and Defoe on the bench if any changes are required upfront. 5 man midfield with Cole on the left, Lennon on the right, Gerard and Lampard in the middle with, if fit, Barry just behind them.

I see ITV ballsed up again. Apparently viewers on the HD channel were being treated to adverts when Stevie G scored. Digital picture quality was ITV’s usual substandard effort with the pitch looking like a patchwork quilt. Bad pixalation, never like this when the footie is on the BBC.

ITV’s streaming is also a let down, for me anyway, as it is hit and miss whether it works or not. Half the time I’m left looking at a black screen with just an audio feed. It does the same on my lads WinXP machine so it’s not a Linux thing. Streaming by other services works fine.

So it’s a big :slap: for ITV from me.
