gedit 100% cpu bug.

Since upgrading to Gnome 2.24,  gedit has been hanging on launch and taking around 30 seconds to become responsive. A work around, while waiting for the bug fix, is to disable the ‘File Browser Plugin’ under Edit > Preferences > Plugins.

/dev/hdb died.

I had a hard disk failure late yesterday evening. That’s two now in recent months. No end of fiddling with fsck utils would remedy the situation but at least testdisk enabled me to copy the data off. I did try dd but it was proving painfully slow for some reason.
