Well here I am on New Years eve sat here on my own after being struck down by the dreaded lurgi. It’s a jolly good excuse to open this bottle of whiskey though, oh yes!
12 months ago this very night I quit smoking and haven’t touch a cig since. I now refer to myself as a nonsmoker and not “I’ve given up” when offered a cig.
Since the smoking ban I’ve also stopped visiting the pub as often. In fact I’ve been in my regular haunt, of the past 30 years, exactly twice since September. Everyone I know still smokes so I end up looking like billy no mates sat there on my jack, everybody else is outside doing untold damage to their health smoking. At least they have a social life. For me this nanny state government has ruined the tradition english pub, well played you bunch of twats.
Also this year Manchester lost one of her sons. Love him or loath him you can’t take away the fact that Anthony H “Madchester” Wilson made a difference.
