I whole heartedly welcome the recent announcements of more heavy lift choppers and the extra £150 million for combating mines and booby traps.
The extra choppers are most welcome but they are needed now and not in 3 to 4 years which is the lead time from order to delivery. The same also applies to the £150 million, it should have been provided years ago.
I do feel though that this sudden upsurge in equipment and money for the Afghan campaign is a poorly disguised attempt by Labour at currying favour with the electorate. Trying to buy votes for the general election that is just over the horizon? I would not put it passed them.
