The Berlin wall and the Iron Curtain was breached 20 years ago to this very day. Hungary opened its borders several days earlier thus, initially, breaching the Iron Curtain but Berlin was always going to be the main act.
I was one year old when the wall was built and right through to my adult life I never thought for one minute that this edifice would ever be removed. I was convinced it would never happen in my life time.
It seems like it was only yesterday that I watched the events unfold on television. I remember well the TV broadcast over here on Christmas day morning on the wall after it had fallen.
