After 6 and a half years it was time to upgrade my main box, Isengard.
Isengard had been running an AMD XP2500 barton core all that time with 512MB DDR ram and a well over worked GeForce FX 5500 128MB card. Over the years various hard drives have been in and out of the machine.
I’ve reused the case, kept the same CD burner and also kept my old Audigy, the original one with the drive bay add-on. I know it’s old but it works and still bangs out a good tune when playing music.
The new bits are;
Intel Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz.
2 GB of DDR 800MHz ram.
Asus cheap and cheerful P5KPL MoBo.
Gainward GeForce 9400 GT 512MB
Samsung 500GB 16MB Cache Sata II HD.
Gigabyte Laser Mouse.
600W PSU.
Hardly bleeding edge technology but it does what I want it to and it’s doing very well without breaking sweet.
It’s running, as was the old hardware, Archlinux.
