While listening to Prime Ministers questions on the radio yesterday the following caught my ear.
The Prime Minister: I admire the right hon. Gentleman’s certainty, but let me just say this: we have asked the two banks in which we have shares to maintain the lending of 2007, which was a high level of lending both to businesses and to mortgage lenders. I believe that that is what they are doing at the moment, and we are monitoring what they are doing every week.

On the level of lending, wasn’t this the very thing that got us in this mess?
On what the banks are doing. He either knows what these banks are doing or he doesn’t. Which one is it? If they are indeed monitoring what the banks are doing then they would know what is going on. Stating that he believes something is happening implies he doesn’t know for sure.
On a separate note.
Any coincidence in the announcement of the 3rd runway at Heathrow being made when Mr Bean is out of the country?
8 years ago this coming month of May I was down in London near Heathrow on business for a week. I flew there from Manchester and the experience at the Heathrow end of the flight was nothing short of disgusting as it takes four times as long to do anything that takes mere minutes up here at Manchester airport. The return flight is not something I want to remember as i had a four hour wait for a domestic flight!
But…
I stayed at the Novotel immediately north of Heathrow. Consequently, due to it being the only decent place in easy reach, I spent every evening in the pub at the top of Sipson Road, good ale, excellent food and great company. Sipson itself is a village surrounded by green fields and if it wasn’t for the noise emanating from Heathrow you’d think you were way out in the country side somewhere.
Mr Bean now wants to cover this area with concrete. :whack:
