This was the state of play as of Monday this week, 11th August. The large trees that were on the right of the earlier photos have now gone. This is due to the road layout being altered.
The day I took this the concrete was being poured for the ground floor. Pity the observation windows were mucky or I would have taken a photo.
This is the war memorial gardens after all the mature trees along its front were felled. I’ve looked long and hard at the redevelopment planning documents and I cannot see anything relating to the removal of these trees. I really do think that the character of the area has been spoiled. There was no need to remove these trees as the road here is staying as is. In fact a new pavement is currently being layed right where the old one was.
